Bespoke Oak Wardrobe in Arts & Craft Style

We were delighted to be asked by these clients who live close to Cambridge, to design and make a free standing wardrobe to match a pair of bedside cabinets we had previously supplied in European oak. The basic design detail followed that of the earlier supplied bedside cabinets as well as framed bed surround, with a subtle slant towards Arts & Crafts style.

To enhance the handmade furniture, the panels to the door and pediment were to accommodate small hand carved low-relief panels, each showing a hare, woodcock and partridge. Doors to this bespoke furniture were framed using the traditional mortice and tenon joint, whilst the drawers within featured handcut dovetails. Hanging rails combined with adjustable shelves, offered a flexible internal layout. The shelves and interior were left in natural cedar, giving a pleasing fragrance, whilst also deterring moths.
