We are a well established, privately owned company of cabinetmakers specialising in the design, construction and installation of unique libraries, studies and other bespoke furniture.
Set in the soft wooded landscape of north-west Essex, not far from Cambridge, lie our workshops, which were formerly used for agricultural purposes. From our converted barns, we produce handmade furniture of uncompromisingly fine standards, which is delivered to addresses throughout the United Kingdom.
Our cabinet making team brings a wealth of experience to our craftsmanship, that is born out of a passion to create beautiful bespoke furniture. Our critical attention to detail, from the initial design stage, cabinet-making, polishing and carving through to delivery and site installation, is the hallmark of our work.
From project conception to its final completion, we endeavor to provide you with traditional good service, as well as a legacy to be enjoyed for many years to come.
At Thos. H. Bretton Ltd, we are keenly aware that there are no short cuts to producing bespoke furniture of the very highest calibre.
In addition to excellent design and well chosen materials, the time honoured skill of each individual cabinet maker is of the utmost importance.
We still follow the traditional cabinet-making practices used by generations of craftsmen in order that the very best results are achieved.
Our in-depth knowledge of cabinet making gained over many years, means that we are well placed to offer guidance to our clients in all areas: initial conceptual designs, source and choice of timber, suitable surface finish and coordination with other trades to achieve a carefully planned installation.
Carefully chosen items, such as English brass hinges, hand-cast handles and other details, ensure that all our bespoke furniture is embellished with only the very finest fittings.
Operating from our workshops at Cherrytree Farm not far from Cambridge, we have gained particular recognition for our design and construction of period as well as contemporary handmade furniture including libraries, studies and panelling.
Projects range from re-creating historically accurate libraries, to designing classic modern bookcases. In every instance we discuss options with you in order to gain an understanding of your requirements, combining your personal tastes and desired style into a fine piece of bespoke furniture which truly complements the setting for which it is intended.
Our recent library commissions for bespoke furniture have included incorporating complex curves, ornate carving, jib doors, secret slides, book rests to the dado, concealed storage areas within pilasters, as well as audio visual equipment disguised within the furniture.
Drawing upon the cabinet making expertise we have gained, we are also pleased to be able to offer an enviable range of styles, finishes and materials from which to choose. In every area the emphasis is upon lasting quality, in order that our hand made furniture may bring pleasure for many years to come.VIEW PORTFOLIO
